2019 Wonderful NightmarE TEMPRANILLO

Walla Walla Valley | Stoney Vine Vineyard

A “wonderful nightmare,” how Hemingway described Spain’s Running of the Bulls, is the ultimate oxymoron: Tempranillo, grown in The Rocks District, is just that. It’s a challenge to grow here as frost can quickly cause this heat-loving grape to shut down. But when it works, it’s beautiful. Leather, yes! Tobacco, absolutely! All in harmony with the inherent Rocks District character: blood, earth, salinity and red fruit. A Tempranillo unlike any other in Washington State.

“Lots of reductive red and black fruits, bloody meat, leather, and sweet herb notes define the nose of the 2019 Tempranillo Wonderful Nightmare. Medium-bodied, it has bright acidity, good sweetness of fruit, but a more narrow, linear mouthfeel compared to the 2018. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful – and promising – Tempranillo.”

92-94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
