2018 mahana SYRAH
Walla Walla Valley | River Rock Vineyard
59% Syrah | 39% Grenache | 2% Viognier
Like a stunning Walla Walla Valley sunset, Mahana Syrah is a complex, lavish expression from the famed Rocks District of Milton-Freewater. Named after Mr. Mahana, who established Freewater, the sister city to Milton in 1889, this Syrah, Viognier co-fermentation is marked by notes of cured meat, olive tapenade and leather. Aged in large format 20% new oak barrels.
“The 2018 Syrah Mahana comes from the River Rock Vineyard in the Rocks region of the Walla Walla Valley. It offers exotic notes of blue fruits, lavender, violets, wood smoke, and sweet earth, and while it has some classic Rocks funk, it shines for its beautiful purity of fruit. Medium to full-bodied, rounded, and elegant, I love its tannins, the balance is spot on, and it’s going to deliver the goods for 10-15 years.”
