Chardonnay | Yakima Valley | Mt. Eden Clone | French Creek Vineyard
Originally brought to America by Paul Masson, Martin Ray planted French Chardonnay in the Santa Cruz Mountains in the 1940’s and revolutionized American winemaking. We make Martin’s Gold from the first plantings of this “Mt. Eden clone” in Washington State. This wine offers a bolder and more New World profile than other Chardonnays from The Walls, yet still with the restrained and balanced Old World style that Ali’s wines are known for. Rich salinity on the palate gives this wine an almost Old World balance. It’s a pretty wine, but also one with structure and body robust enough to compliment some of the summer greats: earthy grilled meats, garlicky Caesar salad, and buttery, herbed breads.
19+/20 POINTS, RAND SEALEY, WASHINGTON WINE
"Produced from the Mt. Eden clone, this is an impressive Chardonnay. It displays a brilliant gold color and classic aromas of Anjou pear, white peach, citrus and a hint of papaya, with scents of pear tree blossoms, acacia flowers, wisteria and white incense. On the palate, the flavors are lavish, just on the edge of tropical, with vivid white fruits that are underlain with peach stone, pear skin and Missoula flood minerals. The richness continues on the back with pressed fruits, poire and pêche liqueurs and touches of nougat and crème fraiche followed by a lingering, precise finish. “This is so delicious,” says Lynn. 19+/20 points."
