Gaspard

Syrah | Red Mountain | Red Heaven and Hedges Vineyards

Red Mountain, hot during the day with cooler nights offers the ideal formula for growing amazing fruit. And amazing fruit leads to beautiful, age-worthy wine. Gaspard Syrah, inspired by the knight who revitalized the Syrah grape in post-Albigensian Crusade France, captures the true essence of Red Mountain. Deep in color, rich in flavor, full-bodied. A perfect companion to lamb stew or Cassoulet or a good book in a comfortable chair.

93 POINTS, WASHINGTON WINE BLOG
"The Walls ‘Gaspard’ Syrah- Sourced from Red Mountain, this shows wonderful smoky tones with bacon fat and tar combining with the core of dark fruits and shades of dried herbs. The mouthfeel and texture are really good, as layers of blackberry compote, Turkish coffee and smoked brisket all wonderfully meld together. Rich and decadent, with good weight and poise, this beautiful new wine will cellar well over the next decade. Drink 2020-2030. 93 points."
19+/20 POINTS, RAND SEALEY
From the Red Heaven and Hedges vineyards, this is a superb rendition of Red Mountain Syrah. It shows a purplish ruby color and an intense, perfumed nose of blackberries, mountain huckleberries, and black currants, with scents of black roses, mulberry, orange peel, brambles, dark tobacco, lavender, violets and oriental incense. On the palate, the flavors are muscular (like the Gaspard de Sterimberg of Hermitage) yet well rounded, comprised of layers of black and blue fruits that are underlain with black licorice, bittersweet chocolate, French roast coffee and Red Mountain scorched earth. The back picks up pressed berries, roasted nuts, glove leather, dried orange peel and charcoal, followed by a lingering, lip smacking ripe tannin and vivid acid finish. “Absolutely delicious,” says Lynn.
